Day Two Hundred Sixty-Seven Notes

The exhaustion continues. It is not that the new boy is up all night. He continues to be a good sleeper. The hot and unusually humid weather combined with being outnumbered and forced to play a zone defense against the three boys--the oldest of two who seem to go fewer minutes between altercations with each increasing percentage point of humidity--have sucked my energy, leaving me listless and to an equal degree helpless.

I got up early to try to get my miles before the sun became too punishing, and again I ran with little spirit, leaning forward and forcing each unwilling leg, as heavy as a wet log, to catch up. Sweat soaked and sleepy, I rewarded my efforts with a trip to the farmers' market where I bought a half flat of ripe and shiny, incomparable Hood strawberries which along with six stalks of rhubarb, I later turned into a pie.

The first strawberry rhubarb pie of the season. Reason enough to show up for the day.

Thank you for your support.
