Iliotibial Band Syndrome seems to be the issue with the outside of my left knee. Today I ran out to the University of Portland with no pain or stiffness, but on the way back, around mile seven I began to feel discomfort. Although the pain did not intensify during the final three miles, it radiated down my leg, ultimately resulting in a cramping sensation in my foot. The pain went away when I stopped and did not bother me the rest of the day except when I descended the stairs or the driveway. From what I have read, one of the causes of IT Band Syndrome is worn out shoes. I have now logged more than 600 miles with my current shoes. A consult with Sean, one of the owners of my local running store, Foot Traffic, taught me that 600 miles is the absolute upper limit of what my Asics Gel Nimbus 9 shoes are designed to endure before beginning to break down.
It looks as though I am in the market for a new pair of shoes. Thank you for your support. Chris Chiacchierini If you have questions about 1,001 miles, please feel free to email me. |
