Day Two Hundred Fifteen Notes

Although it has not hurt at all, my knee has been tight since Sunday's run. With this in mind and knowing that I am slightly ahead of pace for the year, I took it easy today, shortening my route and going at an easy pace. Short run, short write up.

Day Two Hundred Twelve Notes

My knee started aching again today just three miles into the run. I am sure that the work I have been doing remodeling the house is contributing to the problem, and that once I finish the work on the floors, I will be putting far less stress on my knees, but still, the thought of getting injured this far into the run makes me anxious. Fortunately, just past the three mile mark, I reached a my friend Olivia's house where I stopped to stretch before continuing on with Olivia at my side on her bicycle. Olivia is one of those remarkable kids who can carry on a converstation with an adult (in this case we ran/biked and talked for more than 30 minutes), one of those kids who looks you in the eye when she talks to you, one of those kids who you know is going to grow up to do amazing things.

These were the first miles of the 600+ I have run so far for 1,001 Miles that I ran along someone else, the first that spent in conversation, and I was grateful for the opportunity. We talked about what a beautiful day it was and how great it was to be outside. We talked about cancer, about a birthday party she had attended the afternoon before at the Oregon Humane Society, about her school, about my child due in June. We talked about baby names. She was sure to ask how my wife was feeling. She also asked whether I was ready for another baby. I responed that I generally need the entire nine months to fully prepare and kidded her that she will soon have one more kid to add to her future babysitting business.

Day Two Hundred Ten Notes

600 miles!

I hate to keep ripping off passages from Elisa's Carepages site, but Barb writes such passionate and poignant posts that I feel compelled to pass them along. In doing so, I re-read them, ponder and consider them, feel strong feelings about them and (most importantly) instead of moving along to the next distraction, I allow them to sink deeper into my consciousness where they will not easily be forgotton.

The following is an excerpt from recent post written by Barb:

...it is ALL about the hair. Yesterday afternoon one of Ale's little buddies was joking around and took her little kerchief off of her head - you would have thought someone had chopped off her arm for her reaction! She wailed! The thing is, her hair is adorable! It's soft and super curly and she looks so great - but she will have none of it. I asked her how I could help her with this issue and she said, "Make my hair grow faster." Does anyone know if Rogaine really works?!

It's hard sometimes to not be able to fix things.
